In Brazil, the NBR14136 is responsible for the Brazilian standardization of plugs and sockets. This Standard deals with technical requirements of safety and performance adapters with nominal current capability up to 32A and voltage up to 440V.
Based on the International Standard IEC-International Electrotechnical Commission, the IEC60884-2-5, NBR 14,936 is applied to all adapters for household and similar use, inside or outside buildings, but includes any type of plug and making standardization admittedly limited to the values above.
This standard should be applied together with the NBR NM 60884-1 ensuring the technical requirements of construction and performance of the End User.
The standard prescribes the minimum necessary for the following types of adapters:
- Adapter converter system: has one input (plug side) and an output side (outlet).
- Adapter multiple: it has an input (plug side) and two or more outputs (hand made). In multiple adapters to both the plug on the side of the outlets should be according to the Brazilian standardization NBR14136.
