Brazil is coming to a technology called intelligent networks ('smart grid') energy distribution, which promises to be the big leap (pardon the pun) for the management of energy consumption in the country.
The smart grid is the exchange of analog meters by smart, equipped with chips. Technology can provide the consumer with accurate information on how much power he is consuming, at different times of day, which will allow distributors to offer lower prices at night and morning, when consumption is usually lower. For consumers, the reduction in the bill may reach 15%.
Intelligent networks also promise to be a solution to combat illegal connections, the popular 'cats' - the ANEEL , the regulatory agency of electricity services in the country, estimates that the loss with the theft of electricity will reach R $ 7.8 billion a year. Moreover, the technology reduces the flaws in the system of power transmission, which would be welcomed in times of blackout.
Earlier this year, Aneel has opened public consultation on replacing the current system of analog gauges for digital meters. Before that, the utilities such as Broad , who works in Rio de Janeiro, and Cemig , Minas Gerais, are already implementing the first digital electric meters. The U.S. company Silver Spring Networks is a leading provider of technology, along with Axxioma, which has national capital.
