Obama creates Center for Research in Building Efficiency

The departments of Energy, Trade and Labor of the United States and four other federal agencies are teaming up to create a regional research center in the amount of $ 130 million to develop and implement new technologies for building efficiency. The Obama announced last week, funding of 129.7 million dollars for this project. With buildings accounting for 40% of energy consumption in the United States and carbon emissions, the effort is the latest in a series of efficiency initiatives building with the goal of reducing energy consumption, emissions and the value of bills of the owners, while stimulating the economy and create jobs.

The Secretary of Energy United States of America, Steven Chu, said that "energy-efficient buildings represent one of our best and most immediate opportunities to create jobs, save money and reduce carbon pollution." The Department of Energy will provide up to $ 22 million to support the initiative in the first year and $ 100 million over the next four years. The Commerce Department will participate with U.S. $ 5.5 million through a dedicated Economic Development and Public Works Assistance funds for economic adjustment and its Partnership for Extension of Manufacturing. Other support and participation will come from the Department of Education and the National Science Foundation.

The effort of the agencies aim to promote regional growth by establishing a Group Energy Innovation Fund, whose main focus is a device for Energy Innovation. The device or regional research center, develop new technologies for building systems more energy efficient, which are then implanted into regional structures. The center is one of the three proposals of Obama and funded in the budget for fiscal year 2010.
